The Thornton YMCA in Tulsa, OK, successfully renovated an aging and underutilized facility by using the “right material”, the “right builder”, and a new name. They chose Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems with Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Sandscape Texture and used Bomanite of Tulsa as their Bomanite Licensed Contractor. The new name is The Tandy Family YMCA. The results could not have been more dramatically different and more spectacularly beautiful. The community has eagerly embraced the new facility.
The entire facility was updated and a 60,000 square foot addition was added featuring a three-pool aquatic center, including a family pool, a therapy pool, and a lap pool. In the renovated spaces there are Basketball courts, fitness studios, child care and family learning environments. Everything the residents were looking for and even more.
There is now over 100,000 square feet dedicated to community building and wellness, with a focus on prevention and education In a partnership between The Tandy Family YMCA and the OU Physical Therapy and the University of Oklahoma Physicians Sports Medicine, there are over 4,000 square feet specifically for the purpose of studying health and wellness challenges of the adjacent community. Fun, education, and wellness all play well together at this facility and serve the community well. The community could not be happier.
